Field Report: July 17, 2018

We visited Suicide Basin earlier tonight (4:00 until 7:30 pm). The water flow over the dam diminished during that time while the water level in the lake started dropping noticeably. The drop is also visible in the timelapse feature tracking.

It looks like the basin has switched to drainage via subglacial conduit, similar to previous years. The increasing inflow has become visible in the Mendenhall Lake inflow curve. Mendenhall Lake level will probably start increasing early on Wednesday. The upward trend will be masked by the negative trend in the baseflow following last weekend’s heavy rain.
