This summer, Alaska Voices is on the radio. Airing on KUAC out of Fairbanks, KSKA out of Girdwood, KSTK out of Wrangell, and KNOM out of Nome, the six-episode series highlights the climate adaptation lessons and experiences of Alaskans and the human stories behind cutting edge climate science.

Each radio episode features traditional Alaska Voices conversations, in which two or three participants discuss whatever is on their mind about life and science in Alaska. Special for the radio, an expert host joins the conversation each episode, including an environmental health researcher, a renowned fire ecologist and other regional experts.

In the first radio special, a scientist and his daughters recount over a decade of field measurements, as they “crash and bash” through the Chugach wilderness to capture the slow change to a beloved landscape. With recordings taken 8 years apart, listeners can hear a participant grow up, witnessing both the change to the forest and the impact of participating in science from a young age, just one story among many. Listeners will also learn more about how dogs can keep polar bears and humans safe, how growing up in Utqiagvik has informed new research and how a lifetime of forest science has left an impact on colleagues and friends.

Fairbanks listeners can tune in to KUAC (89.9 FM) Tuesdays at 7 P.M. or listen live here.

Anchorage-area listeners can tune into KSKA (91.1 FM, in Girdwood 91.9) Thursdays at 10 A.M. and 8 P.M.

Alaska Voices will air on KNOM (96.1 FM) starting July 17th, Fridays at 1pm. Stay tuned for the KSTK (101.7 FM, 91.9 FM) radio schedule.
