Local climate data for southeast Alaska

Map of eastern Russia, Alaska, and western Canada, showing monthly average temperatures using color gradients with red symbolizing warmer temperatures and dark blue symbolizing cooler temperatures.

AK CASC researchers are working with a team of stakeholders to create highly detailed climate projections for the region that will help managers prepare for the rapid changes in climate Southeast Alaska faces.

New dynamical downscaling techniques garner attention

Map of Alaska separated into climate divisions: north slope, west coast, northeast interior, central interior, southeast interior, cook inlet, bristol bay, northwest gulf, aleutians, northeast gulf, north panhandle, central panhandle, and south panhandle.

A group of AK CASC-affiliated researchers has achieved some success in their efforts to downscale past climate profiles in and around Alaska. Based on a wide variety of coarse-resolution historical data, an array of new visualization and forecasting tools is now available.
