Dr. Patrick Lemons is the Assistant Regional Administrator/Deputy Director, of the Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center. Patrick was formerly the Chief of the Marine Mammals Management program for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska where he worked on conservation, management and research of marine mammals. This involved working closely with partners at the local, national, and international level to develop and integrate science and local knowledge into policy and management decisions. Patrick also served as the U.S. Head of Delegation to the Polar Range States Agreement as well as the Alternate Commissioner to the U.S.-Russia Polar Bear Treaty.
Prior to becoming the Chief of the Marine Mammals Management Program, Patrick worked as the population ecologist for their Walrus and Sea Otter Program at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and conducted his post-doctoral work with U.S. Geological Survey’s Alaska Science Center on migratory birds. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno in quantitative population estimation and behavior ecology of migratory birds and also holds a Masters of Science from Texas Tech University and an undergraduate from Kansas State University. Patrick grew up hiking, hunting, and fishing with his family and enjoys passing those traditions on today to his two sons.
