A Holistic Outlook for Yukon and Kuskokwim River Salmon: Understanding Recent Population Drivers to Assess Future Recovery
This session explored an interdisciplinary, collaborative effort to create a holistic outlook for Yukon and Kuskokwim salmon. In this effort, the Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, International Arctic Research Center, and other entities consider recent climatic, ecological, and fishery drivers of salmon abundance across their life cycles, such as wildfires, marine heat waves, and bycatch, to look forward through time and assess how these impacts may affect salmon populations and recovery in the future.
