Land and Climate Work Session
In May of 2024, AK CASC and Native American Fish & Wildlife hosted the Land and Climate Work Session in Bethel in collaboration with Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Realty Division and Native Movement with financial support from the First Nations Development Institute. The purpose of this work session was to highlight examples of land planning strategies and tools used by communities to address climate change impacts in Alaska. Eighteen participants representing nine communities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim-Delta region joined this work session.
Training Goals
- Discuss the contemporary land-use planning context and traditional land use decision-making processes.
- Provide and discuss examples of climate change issues facing Alaska, focusing on those issues which involve land-use and planning decisions.
- Provide practical, real-life examples of strategies and planning tips used by communities to address climate change impacts.
