Looking Forward, Looking Back: Strengthening Resilience Today
Looking Forward, Looking Back: Strengthening Resilience Today workshop series was hosted between spring of 2023 through 2024. The goal of this training series was to invite inter-organizational community teams to learn from each other, and strengthen their existing climate adaptation priorities through sharing climate science, adaptation tools and strategies, and technical support. Participating community teams were from Hooper Bay and Paimiut, Unalakleet, Igiugig, Kokhanok, and Klawock.
This training series was hosted by AK CASC, the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, and Native Movement with funding support from the BIA Tribal Climate Resilience Program.

Training Goals
- Introduce different climate adaptation frameworks including the Just Transition Framework.
- Tools to communicate about climate change within local communities and to external audiences in ways that can facilitate adaptation action.
- Tools for promoting wellness within climate change community adaptation and decision making.
- Explore climate impacts on traditional territories and current land use areas through the lens of healthy land and waters, including animals, plant and bird life.
- Increase tribal community engagement, working across teams and entities.
